Seven Warriors Picked To Phil Steele’s All-MW Teams

CLEVELAND – Seven University of Hawai'i football players were named to Phil Steele's Postseason All-Mountain West team.

Linebacker Jahlani Tavai was the only Rainbow Warrior selected to the first team. Wide receiver Marcus Kemp and offensive lineman Dejon Allen were named to the second team while four others were picked to the third team – offensive lineman Leo Koloamatangi, defensive lineman Meffy Koloamatangi, safety Trayvon Henderson, and Rigoberto Sanchez, who earned recognition as a kicker and punter.

All seven were selected to the Mountain West's postseason all-conference teams that were announced two weeks ago.

Tavai is UH's leading tackler and ranks sixth in the MW with an average of 9.1 tackles per game. He also ranks among the league leaders in tackles for loss (1.35 per game) and sacks (7). Kemp, selected as the team's Most Valuable Player, ranks fourth in the MW in receptions (5.4 per game) and fifth in yards (79.7 per game). Allen led all UH lineman in knockdowns and grade and did not allow a sack all season.

Brothers Leo and Meffy Koloamatangi played pivotal roles on both sides of the line. On offense, Leo played and started nearly every position on the line missing only one game due to injury. He played every offensive snap in 11 of 12 games. Meffy had a breakout junior season, starting eight games at end and ranks among the top defensive lineman in the MW with an average of 3.4 tackles per game.

One year after suffering season-ending knee injury, Henderson rebounded with his best year as a Rainbow Warrior. The Sacramento, Calif., native is second on the team with an average of 6.5 tackles per game along with two interceptions and five pass breakups. Sanchez handled all kicking duties for the Rainbow Warriors, missing only one kick – a PAT in UH's regular season finale versus UMass. He made all 12 of his field goal attempts while his 44.6 punting average ranks second in the conference and 15th nationally.
