Taylor Earns Big West Player of the Week Honors

IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i women's volleyball junior Nikki Taylor (Honolulu, O'ahu/Kaiser HS) was voted Big West Player of the Week after posting three straight stellar performances en route to also being named Most Outstanding Player of the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational this past weekend.

It is the second time in Taylor's career that she garnered the conference's weekly honor. As a freshman, she earned the accolade on Nov. 25, 2013. Last season, she was named BWC Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 24, 2014.

Taylor led the No. 18 Rainbow Wahine to a 3-0 record after notching a tourney-high 52 kills with a team-high 15 blocks plus 27 digs.  Taylor hit .330 (52-19-100) as UH recorded sweeps over Idaho and Oregon State while winning in four sets versus Wichita State.

The 6-4 opposite picked up 12 kills with a .500 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs and four blocks in the season-opening three-set win over the Vandals.

Taylor then slammed a career-high 25 kills while hitting an even .300 against the Shockers, adding 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.  Taylor also had five blocks in the match.

She concluded the tournament with 15 kills, eight digs and six blocks versus Oregon State. Taylor hit at a .281 (15-6-32) clip.

For the week, Taylor averaged 5.20 kills, 2.70 digs and 1.50 blocks per set.

On Monday, the Rainbow Wahine moved up a spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Coaches' Poll. This week, the 'Bows host the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic with American, Iowa and UCLA all coming to Honolulu for the tournament.
