Jeff Hall Moves Over To Women’s Volleyball Programs

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i women's volleyball coach Dave Shoji announced the hiring of Jeff Hall as associate coach of the indoor squad and head coach of the sand volleyball program. Hall has spent the past four seasons as an assistant for Charlie Wade's men's volleyball program.

"Jeff Hall has all the qualifications we were looking for in an associate coach as well as head sand coach," Shoji said. "I've had the opportunity to see him first hand work with the men's team and I think he'll bring the same energy and mindset to the Rainbow Wahine. He's done everything we expect from our associate coach from recruiting to film analysis to game planning, and is very proficient in the practice gym. He will be a great asset to both programs and we look forward to a smooth transition."

"I'm extremely excited about this opportunity and grateful that Coach Shoji has the confidence in me to follow in the footsteps of some great assistant coaches," Hall said. "I want to thank Charlie Wade for bringing me to Hawai'i. I've grown under his leadership. I feel this is the right time and right opportunity for me and my family and can't wait to get started. I'm looking forward to being the head coach of the sand volleyball program, shaping the culture and adding to its success. Scott Wong has built a solid foundation and put all the pieces in place to make a run at the national championship."

Hall replaces Wong, who resigned from both positions to take the Pepperdine women's volleyball head coach position last month.

Hall joined the men's squad in 2011 and moved into the associate coach role the following year. His duties included recruiting, team scouting and offensive game planning, as well as working with the setters in the practice gym. Hall helped the Rainbow Warriors qualify for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament twice (2011 and '13) and began the 2015 season assisting UH to a runner-up finish at last week's Outrigger Resorts Invitational.

Hall played professionally on the AVP tour for four seasons, however, has spent more than 20 years playing and coaching on the beach. He continues to play at the Outrigger Canoe Club and Queen's Beach at least twice a week.

Hall came to UH from his alma mater, the University of the Pacific, where he spent three seasons (2007-09) as assistant coach for the men's program. At UOP, Hall was the top assistant whose main duties included coaching the attackers, scouting and recruiting coordinator, and academic progress coordinator.

Prior to UOP, Hall spent three years with the UC San Diego men's and women's volleyball teams from 2004-07. His primary duties with the women included coaching the middle blockers while serving as recruiting coordinator and first assistant with the men. He helped the Tritons women's team advance to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals in 2004.

Hall also was the first assistant at Grossmont College for five seasons from 2000-04, where his teams finished fifth in the state twice. A native of St. Paul, Minn., he also coached at Mission Bay High School for three years and was the head coach of the top-ranked Seaside 18's club team in Del Mar for seven seasons. His club won the gold medal at the Junior Olympics in Minneapolis in 2006 while also producing seven Top 10 finishes nationally, including five in the Top 5.

Considered one of the top players in Pacific volleyball history, Hall was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year in his two seasons with the Tigers in 1993 and '94. After earning his bachelor's degree of fine arts in graphic design in 1999, he was selected to the United States Olympic Festival during the summers of 1993 and '94.

Prior to Pacific, Hall played at Orange Coast Junior College, where he earned first-team all-Orange Empire Conference honors. He also attended and played at Park College where he was named Offensive Player of the Year, as well as an All-American at the A.A.U. Junior Nationals competition.

Hall and his wife, Jayme, have two daughters, Dylan Makela (8) and Devon Hana (6). Hall lived in Kona for one year following college.
