Rainbow Wahine Softball Adds Aina Cabrales

HONOLULU - University of Hawai'i head softball coach Bob Coolen has announced the newest member of the Rainbow Wahine. Kanani Aina Cabrales is a sophomore transfer from Georgia Tech who will join the team this fall.
 
Aina Cabrales appeared in 36 games as a freshman for the Yellow Jackets as both a pitcher and a designated player. At the plate, she finished ranked fourth on the team with a .333 batting average (33-for-99) with four doubles, a home run and 18 RBI in her rookie season. As a pitcher, she recorded a 7-10 record with a 5.70 ERA with eight complete games in 23 appearances and 105.2 innings pitched. Aina Cabrales was on the Dean's List for both the fall and spring semester of her freshman year at Georgia Tech.
 
She spent two years at Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.) before transferring to Archer High School (Lawrenceville, Ga.) for her junior and senior year. Aina Cabrales earned the 2012 Gwinnett County Pitcher of the Year award and was also the 2012 Georgia Dugout Club Payer of the Year. Aina Cabrales was also named the 2012 Gwinnett Daily Post Pitcher of the Year. In her senior season, she helped lead the Tigers to the school's first AAAAAA state title with an overall team record of 33-7. In the pitching circle, Aina Cabrales posted a 24-4 record and a 1.23 ERA with 184 strikeouts in 182 innings pitched. On offense, Aina Cabrales tallied a .405 batting average with 49 hits, 11 doubles, five home runs, 17 runs scored, 31 RBI and 22 walks as a senior.
 
"Kanani brings a year of Division I experience to our squad," says Coolen. "She was an exceptional pitcher at her high school in Georgia and for her travel ball team. We look forward to her joining our team and bringing with her a fresh perspective on the mound."

Aina Cabrales was born in Simi Valley, Ca. but lives in Lawrenceville, Ga. with her parents Ahlan Aina and Roy Cabrales and younger sister. Cabrales plans to major in business administration.
