Former Rainbow Warrior and current United States Naval Academy head coach Ken Niumatalolo has been named to the inaugural class of the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held on January 23, 2014 at the Hawai'i Convention Center in Honolulu, HI.

A 1989 graduate of Hawai'i, Niumatalolo lettered three years (1987-89) as a quarterback and was part of Hawai'i's first bowl team in 1989. He served as a graduate assistant for the Rainbow Warriors before becoming a full-time assistant coach under head coach Bob Wagner for years. In his first year as a full-time assistant, the Rainbow Warriors enjoyed one of the greatest seasons in school history, winning its first-ever Western Athletic Conference title and upsetting Illinois in the 1992 Holiday Bowl.Â

In 2007 Niumatalolo was hired as head coach at the United States Naval Academy after serving as an assistant coach under Paul Johnson, a former UH offensive coordinator. Niumatalolo became the first person of Samoan ancestry to be named an FBS head coach and he is the winningest Polynesian coach in FBS history. His 40 wins are the most in school history by a coach in his first five years and he was the first service academy coach to lead his team to the Commander-in-Chief Trophy in his first two seasons at the helm.

Niumatalolo is one of seven inductees selected from a list of 25 finalist. Among those being honored in the inaugural class are
