Women's Tennis Opens 2013 with Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational

HONOLULU--The No. 54 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opens its 2013 season with the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational from Jan. 9-10, 2013 at the UH Tennis Complex. The 'Bows will host No. 3 Duke and Hawai'i Pacific in the two-day tournament.

The Rainbow Wahine return five players from last year's squad that had a breakthrough season. UH was ranked in the ITA for the first time in program history; won their first Western Athletic Conference title; and advanced to their first ever NCAA tournament. Leading the 'Bows this season is senior captain Katarina Poljakova who is currently ranked No. 23 all-time in school history with 48 career singles victories. This past fall, she led UH going 8-3 in singles and a 3-7 mark in doubles. She advanced to the Round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals in October at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Since her freshman season in 2009-10, the Vysoke Tatry, Slovakia native has compiled a 48-36 record, including a 16-14 record as a junior primarily in the No. 2 court. She has a career doubles record of 42-36, including a 16-14 mark in 2012.

Also returning along with Poljakova are juniors Kelsey Daguio and Xenia Suworowa and sophomores Rebecca Faltusz and Martina Kostalova. In the fall, the Rainbow Wahine welcomed in two freshman Daisy Green and Kelly Domingo
