The University of Hawai'i women's golf team will begin its fall season with the Oregon State Invitational Monday, Sept. 17 and Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.
The 2012 Oregon State Invitational features a 16-team field, including one team from last year's top 30 final rankings, No. 30 Washington. Rounding out the rest of the field are Boise State, Cal State Northridge, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Idaho, Nevada, Northern Arizona, Portland State, San Francisco, Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, Utah Valley, Washington State and Weber State.
Participants will play a total of 54 holes, 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,141-yard course with a 9:00 a.m. PT shotgun start on Monday and 8:00 a.m. PT tee times on the first and 10
th hole on Tuesday.
This season the Rainbow Wahine return four letterwinners from last year's team and welcome two newcomers. Returning are seniors Ka'ili Britos and
Megan Inouye, as well as juniors Charlee Kapiioho and
Liana Otake. Newcomers
Kaylee Koeppen, a transfer from North Florida, and freshman
Nichole Cruz round out the roster.
Britos owns a 78.2 career stroke average with six top 10 finishes. Her highest finish was runner-up at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in 2010. Inouye is in her fourth and final season with the Rainbow Wahine.
Kapiioho finished last season with a 78.8 stroke average and had the highest finish of her career at the WAC Championships when she finished tied for eighth. Otake is entering her third year with the program and has a career stroke average of 81.9.
Koeppen redshirted last year at North Florida while Cruz won two team state championships at Christian Brothers School in Sacramento, Calif.
Head coach
Lori Castillo enters her fifth year at the helm and leads the Rainbow Wahine in their inaugural season in the Big West Conference.
