HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team took a break from collegiate action to host Japanese professional club Toyota Auto Body on Tuesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH won the opening set but the Queenseis won the match in four sets (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22).
Ashley Kastl led Hawai'i with 13 kills and four blocks, and
Jane Croson added 11 kills and three blocks.

Aki Fujiwara had a match-high 15 kills for the Queenseis and Mari Yamada added seven kills and a match-high 14 digs.
The opening set saw UH take early leads of 5-3 and 12-7, but the Queenseis weren't about to let Hawai'i run away with the set. They responded to even the score at 16-16 on a kill by Yoshiko Yano (9 kills). Hawai'i grabbed a two-point lead on a Kastl kill but Toyota Auto Body came back to take a 21-20 lead. The 'Bows took control from that point on, as a kill by Hartong and block assists by
Jade Vorster (2 kills) and Croson sealed the win.
Set two was close until a Yano kill put the Queenseis ahead 17-14. A Hartong error put the lead at 19-15 and it was a pair of kills by Fujiwara that gave Toyota Auto Body the win. In set three, the 'Bows again trailed in the late stages when Yukiji Kajiwara recorded a kill to give the Queenseis a 19-15 lead. UH rallied on block assists by Kastl and
Kristiana Tuaniga (6 kills, 2 blocks) to cut the lead to one point, but Yano recorded a pair of kills down the stretch to preserve the lead and put her team in the drivers set up 2-1 in the match.
The 'Bows return to collegiate action when they play their Big West Conference home opener on Thursday against UC Irvine, then face Long Beach State on Saturday. Both matches will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
