Post-Spring Depth Chart
HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head football coach
Norm Chow announced his post-spring depth chart following the conclusion of spring training which ended with the “Warrior Bowl” Friday, April 27.
After 15 spring practices, the quarterback position is still up for grabs with returnee
David Graves and transfer
Jeremy Higgins bracketed as the co-No. 1 in Chow's pro-set offense. Graves, a junior from Folsom, Calif., started two games last season while Higgins, a sophomore from Honolulu, sat out a year ago after transferring from Utah State. Graves took most of the first team reps in spring drills while Higgins ascended to the top spot with his improved play during the final weeks of practice.
Among the returning starters from last year's squad who remain atop their respective positions are sophomore David Lefotu, who is listed as the top right guard and junior
Billy Ray Stutzmann, who is the No. 1 “X” receiver. Lefotu made seven starts at right guard in his redshirt freshman season while Stutzmann started all 13 games and led the team with 78 receptions.
Sophomore running back
Joey Iosefa, who made 11 starts a year ago and is the team's top returning rusher, is listed co-No. 1 with
Will Gregory, a redshirt freshman from Compton, Calif.
Craig Cofer, a former defensive lineman, is the No. 1 tight end. Atop the “Z” receiver position is
Scott Harding, a sophomore from Bisbane, Australia, who was a freshman All-American punt returner last season. The “F” position is a three-man rotation between fullback
Justin Vele, wide receiver
Jeremiah Ostrowski, and tight end
Clark Evans.
On defense, all four returning starters assume the top spot at their respective positions – defensive end (Joker)
Paipai Falemalu, linebacker (SAM)
Art Laurel, and cornerbacks
Mike Edwards and
John Hardy-Tuliau. Falemalu, a senior from Hau'ula, O'ahu, totaled 50 tackles, including 4.5 sacks last season while Laurel, a junior from Wahiawa, O'ahu, led the team with 14.5 tackles for loss along with nine sacks. Hardy-Tuliau, a junior from Temecula, Calif., finished third on the team with 73 tackles starting all 13 games at free safety.
Edwards, a junior from Cleveland, Ohio who had 11 pass break-up and one interception last season, is also listed as the top kickoff specialist.
Also projected to start on the defensive line are
Geordon Hanohano, a senior from Wai'anae, O'ahu;
Moses Samia, a sophomore from 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu, and
Beau Yap, a sophomore from Pearl City, O'ahu.
Along with Laurel at linebacker are middle backer
TJ Taimatuia, a sophomore from Fagasa, American Samoa, and WILL backer
George Daily-Lyles, a junior from Long Beach, Calif.
The No. 1 safeties are
Bubba Poueu-Luna, a sophomore from Temecula, Calif., and
Mike Sellers, a sophomore from 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu.
All three returning special teams starters enter fall camp at No. 1 including placekicker
Tyler Hadden, who converted a 53-yard field goal during the Warrior Bowl. Punter
Alex Dunnachie used the spring to work on increasing his hang time while long snapper
Luke Ingram recovered from a shoulder injury.
The Warriors are scheduled to begin fall camp in early August in preparation for their season-opener at USC, Sept. 1.
