HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team concluded its first spring season under new head coach Norm Chow Friday night with the “Spring Fling” at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field. The event included a youth clinic, alumni game and the final scrimmage of the spring with the 2012 “Warrior Bowl.”

Nearly 1,500 fans watched the defense defeat the offense, 30-20, in a modified scoring format at the annual intra-squad scrimmage. The defense dominated the majority of the action before the offense made a late rally. The defense led 25-3 after three quarters before holding on for a 10-point win.

The defense stopped the offense on 11 of 15 series and forced one turnover—an interception by redshirt freshman Kendrick Van Ackeren—to generate its 30 points.

On offense, the Warriors found most of its success on the ground with 194 gross yards rushing, including 71 yards and a touchdown from redshirt freshman Will Gregory.  John Lister scored the only other touchdown by the offense on a 4-yard scamper. Both of those touchdowns came in the fourth quarter as the offense pulled within eight points, 25-17, with a little more than five minutes remaining.

Senior quarterback David Graves completed 5-of-16 passes for 42 yards and one interception, while sophomore transfer Jeremy Higgins finished 10-of-23 for 100 yards. Freshman Ikaika Woolsey completed four of his five attempts for 70 yards. Senior Jeremiah Ostrowski and sophomore Trevor Davis combined for six catches and 86 yards.

Special teams closed out the game on a high note as Tyler Hadden nailed a 43-yard field goal. Hadden converted on 2-of-3 attempts, including a 53-yarder to end the first half.

UH will return for fall practice in August, before opening its 2012 season at USC on September 1.
