CARSON, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i conducted its annual Pro Day for draft eligible football players at the Home Depot Center Monday. More than a dozen former Warriors participated and were put through various tests for scouts and player personnel from 26 NFL teams.
Among the recent UH alumni participating were
Shane Austin,
Aaron Brown,
Austin Hansen,
Brett Leonard,
Zach Masch,
Vaughn Meatoga,
Bryant Moniz,
Corey Paredes,
Royce Pollard,
Liko Satele,
Richard Torres, and
Kaniela Tuipulotu. The Warriors receiving the most interest from the scouts were Meatoga (DL), Pollard (WR) and Brown (LB).
Each participant was measured and went through various skills tests including the vertical jump, broad jump, 225-pound bench press, 40-yard dash, pro agility drill, and 3-cone drill as well as various position drills.
Among the notable highlights were Pollard running a 4.57 in the 40-yard dash, offensive lineman
Brett Leonard's 25 reps in the 225-pound bench press, and Paredes and Brown posting 40 times of 4.55 and 4.77, respectively. Moniz, who is recovering from a leg injury, participated in throwing drills.
For the past several years, the Warriors have conducted their Pro Day at the Home Depot Center, which is a closer proximity to the scouts than Honolulu. The NFL Draft is April 26-28 at Radio Music Hall in New York City with the with the first round taking place April 26, followed by the second and third rounds on April 27. Rounds 4-7 will be held April 28.
A UH athlete has been selected in 10 of the past 12 drafts, including a school-record five picks in 2007. Last year, three Warriors were selected; Alex Green (3
rd Round), Greg Salas (4
th Round), and Kealoha Pilares (5
th Round).
