HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i tennis team will open their fall season with their annual Rainbow Wahine Tournament from Oct. 4-6. Participating in the tourney are BYU-Hawai'i, Chaminade, and Hawai'i Pacific.
The Rainbow Wahine return five players from last year's squad that had a breakthrough season. UH was ranked in the ITA for the first time in program history; won their first Western Athletic Conference title; and advanced to their first ever NCAA tournament. Leading the 'Bows this season is senior captain
Katarina Poljakova who is currently ranked No. 23 all-time in school history with 48 career singles victories. Since her freshman season in 2009-10, the Vysoke Tatry, Slovakia native has compiled a 48-36 record, including a 16-14 record as a junior primarily in the No. 2 court. She has a career doubles record of 42-36, including a 16-14 mark in 2012.
Also returning along with Poljakova are juniors
Kelsey Daguio and
Xenia Suworowa and sophomores
Rebecca Faltusz and
Martina Kostalova. Joining the team this fall are newcomers
Daisy Green and
Kelly Domingo.
