HONOLULU –The 2nd Annual A'o a Koa Scholarship Dinner, in support of the University of Hawai'i Warrior Volleyball program is set for Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Honolulu Country Club.
 
This event will be a fun-filled opportunity to meet up front and personally with head coach Charlie Wade and his staff, which includes former UH All-Americans Maulia La Barre and Vernon Podlewski. Maulia begins his first year as a volunteer coach while Podlewski returns for his second year and first as a full-time coach. In addition, Jeff Hall returns for his second year and first as an associate coach. Several former Warriors will also be on hand to socialize and sign autographs.
 
Last year's inaugural event raised more than $30,000. Proceeds raised from this event will be used to defray costs associated with the UH Warrior Volleyball Youth Summer Camps, thereby making it affordable and possible for local youths to attend at no cost. Proceeds will also be used to help fund summer school scholarships for current UH volleyball scholarship student-athletes. Summer school is a vital off-season activity that allows the program to keep its student-athletes on track to earning their degrees while staying in the islands to continue their off-season workouts as a team.
 
The event also features a silent auction with sports memorabilia, travel, golf, hotel and event ticket packages, dinner certificates and other great items.
