Danielson, Hartong Earn Volleyball Magazine All-America Honors

2011 Volleyball Magazine All-America Team

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i outside hitter Kanani Danielson was named to the 2011 Volleyball Magazine All-America First Team, with middle hitter Emily Hartong garnering third team honors. The announcement was made Tuesday by Volleyball Magazine and will be featured in the February issue. Outside hitter Jane Croson was an honorable mention selection for Freshman of the Year.

The award for Danielson was another in the long list of accolades during her four-year career. Recognized as one of the best players to don a Rainbow Wahine uniform, she is a three-time all-America selection, was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year a record three times, and was the recent recipient of the Lowes Senior CLASS award. This past season she stamped her name in UH women's volleyball lore by becoming just the seventh player to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for a career.

Hartong brought her game to new heights this season with a second team AVCA all-America selection. The former WAC Freshman of the Year played every front row position and was named First Team All-WAC and AVCA All-Region. She finished the season in the Top 25 nationally in hitting percentage (.369).

Croson set the stage this season for what will likely be a great career at UH. This was her second postseason honor after being named to the All-WAC Second Team. Croson started every match this season and was second on the team in kills (412) and kills per set (3.58) and tallied 179 digs and a WAC-best 42 service aces.

UH ran the table in the Western Athletic Conference for the 13th time en route to its 16th conference title. The 'Bows topped Northern Colorado and Colorado State in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Honolulu Regional. It was the 30th postseason appearance by Hawai'i.
