No. 12 Rainbow Wahine Top Pacific In Four Sets

HONOLULU – On Day 2 of the Verizon Volleyball Challenge, the No. 12 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team defeated Pacific in four sets, 25-17, 25-17, 20-25, 25-15. UH improves to 7-1 while UOP falls to 6-3. The 'Bows will play Cincinnati on Saturday for the tournament title. 

Kanani Danielson led UH with a match-high 18 kills and 16 digs. Jane Croson had 15 kills and 10 digs, and Brittany Hewitt added 10 kills and four blocks. 

Samantha Misa led Pacific with 17 kills and nine digs. 

Hawai'i was tested in set one but won going away. UH trailed 12-9 before responding to take a one-point advantage. The 'Bows then increased the lead and finished the set with six straight points. Hewitt had a block and a pair of kills to help her team to the 25-17 win. 

The 'Bows dominated set two, winning by the same score to take a 2-0 lead. UH led 16-13 before closing the set on a 12-4 run. Croson and Satele each had a pair kills in the spurt. 

Pacific stayed in the match with a 25-20 win in set three, but the Rainbow Wahine closed the door on the match with a 25-15 set four win. They posted nine straight points midway through the set and coasted to the victory. 

Chanteal Satele contributed eight kills and five blocks. 

Cincinnati defeated Rice, 33-35, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-11, in the opening match of the evening. 

There were 6,376 tickets issued for the contest, and a turnstile count of 4,844. 

Hawai'i and Cincinnati play at 7:00 p.m. which will be preceded by Pacific versus Rice at 3:00 p.m.
