LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2011 AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll was released Monday with the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team ranked No. 10.
The Rainbow Wahine, ranked No. 13 in the final 2010 poll, will be aiming for their 16th WAC title and 30th NCAA Tournament berth. They return five starters from last year's squad including AVCA all-Americans Kanani Danielson and Brittany Hewitt, and all-WAC selection Chanteal Satele.
Four-time defending national champion Penn State was ranked No. 1 in the poll.
Hawai'i opens the season hosting the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational, first playing San Francisco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26. They then play Wichita State on Saturday and Arizona on Sunday.
Opponents on UH's schedule that are in the preseason rankings are No. 11 UCLA, No. 21 Ohio State, and No. 22 Long Beach State. Pepperdine, San Francisco, Wichita State, Arizona, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati all received votes.
