HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i fans will be treated to an enhanced game experience during the upcoming 2011-12 sporting events in the Stan Sheriff Center with the installation of a new state-of-the-art scoreboard and other digital equipment in the arena.
The total cost of the project is approximately $2 million and includes the main LED scoreboard with four HD-quality video boards, which will feature live game action, replays, statistics, and promotional activities. There will also be an upper panel and lower ring on the scoreboard, which will feature Corporate Partner brands and messages, as well as fan information.
Also, new digital basketball shot clocks, locker room game clocks and a completely revamped master control room, where the scoreboard and other video elements will be operated, are included in the project.

Rich Sheriff, manager of the Stan Sheriff Center. “As much as we enjoyed our previous scoreboard, this new system is a significant upgrade and we're appreciative of everyone involved who made this possible. Upgrades like these continue to make the Stan Sheriff Center one of the best facilities in the West Coast.”
Work is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2011 UH women's volleyball season which begins August 26. The new equipment will also be utilized during the men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's volleyball seasons, as well as other special events in the arena during the year.
The scoreboard will feature:
- 21-feet wide by 12-feet high 10mm LED pixel spacing video board
- Four video boards with 225,280 LED bulbs per board
- 3-feet high by 19-feet, 6-inches in diameter lower LED ring, featuring video elements that will rotate 360 degrees
- HD in-house camera capability, with two hand-held, wireless cameras and one mounted remote camera that will be used to shoot on-court promotional contests and interactive activities with fans in the stands.
- NBA-style transparent shot clocks visible from any seat in the arena
- Computer-generated video graphics will allow scoreboard messages to be continually updated during the course of the seasons.

UH will also be installing a new LED courtside video table, which is three feet high and 40 feet wide. The project is currently in the procurement process and additional details will be announced as soon as the winning bidder is selected.
