Three Warriors Named To All-MPSF Teams

2011 All-MPSF Teams

University of Hawai'i men's volleyball players Jonas Umlauft, Joshua Walker and Nejc Zemljak were named to the all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation teams announced by the league office Thursday.

Umlauft was selected to the 12-member first team while Walker and Zemljak were each named to the 12-member second team.

USC's Murphy Troy was named the Player of the Year and Bill Ferguson was Coach of the Year. BYU's Taylor Sander was named the league's Freshman of the Year.

Umlauft, a sophomore from Stadtbergen, Germany, became the first UH athlete to earn first-team honors since Brian Beckwith and Lauri Hakala in 2006. Last season, he was named second-team all-league and Freshman of the Year while Walker was named to the third team and Zemljak an honorable mention.

This season, Umlauft is leading the nation in kills at 5.55 per set while hitting .345. He has hit for 20 or more kills in 14 matches and was the team's leader in kills in all but two matches this season. Earlier this season, he was named the AVCA and MPSF Player of the Week, following his performance in UH's sweep of No. 5 Long Beach State in which he had 22 kills in each match and averaged 6.29 kills per set.

Walker, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., is having his most efficient season of his career. Despite averaging a career-low 3.57 kills per set average, the Virginia Beach, Va., native is hitting a career-best .332, including .350 in league play. Walker ranks fifth all-time in school history 1,420 kills with 80 career double-figure matches, including 15 with 20-kills or more.

Zemljak, a senior from Maribor, Slovenia, was one of three setters named to the first and second teams. This season, he is averaging 10.96 assists per set, eighth-best nationally, while also leading the team in digs at 1.92 per set. Zemljak, a four-year letterwinner, has guided the Warriors to .400 hitting or better in six matches, including a season-high .543 against Cal State Northridge.

The Warriors will compete in the MPSF Tournament quarterfinals where they will face UC Irvine, Saturday, April 23. Match time is 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT) at UCI's Crawford Court.
