Umlauft Named AVCA National Player Of The Week

LEXINGTON, Ken. – University of Hawai'i All-American opposite Jonas Umlauft was named the AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball Player of the Week following his performance in UH's two-match sweep of Long Beach State last week. In addition, he also was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week.

The AVCA award is the first of Umlauft's young career and the first for a UH player since April 17, 2006, when Lauri Hakala received the award. It is also the 16th time a UH player has been recognized with the AVCA player of the week award in the program's history.

The MPSF award is the first for a UH athlete this year and the fourth time Umlauft has been recognized by the conference in his career.

Umlauft had 22 kills each night against the 49ers and averaged 6.29 kills per set in the series. In UH's four-set win in the opener, he also tallied eight digs while in the straight set win the following night, he hit .350 and had two of the team's three service aces.

On the year, Umlauft leads the nation with a 5.44 kills per set while hitting for a .335 percentage, which ranks 14th nationally. He has 10 20-plus kill matches and hit for double figures in all 20 matches he's played in. Umlauft also boasts averages of 1.26 digs and 0.66 blocks per set along with 16 service aces.

The Warriors are in the midst of a six-match win streak, their longest since 2007. UH continues its current four-match road trip with a pivotal two-match series at No. 3 Brigham Young, Thursday, March 24 and Friday, March 25 in Provo, Utah.

UH moved up two spots to No. 8 in this week's AVCA Division I-II Top 15 poll. BYU dropped one spot to No. 3 after splitting a pair of matches with unranked Cal State Northridge last week.
