HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i women's volleyball player Brittany Hewitt was named the 2010 CVU.com Blocker of the Year. The announcement was made by the Collegiate Volleyball Update.
Hewitt led the nation in blocking (1.68 bps), while also averaging 2.30 kills per set and hitting .365. During the season, she broke two UH rally-scoring records for hitting percentage (.917 vs. New Mexico State) and blocking (16 vs. San Diego).
The sophomore from Eagle, Idaho was also named to the AVCA All-America Second-Team after earning all-WAC first team and AVCA all-region honors.
UH also earned CVU.com team recognition, as it was named to the Top 5 Defensive Team of the Year list. The Rainbow Wahine held the opposition to just .141 hitting (eighth best) with 14.93 digs and 2.67 blocks per set.
Hawai'i advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season before falling to the University of Washington.
