HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team moved within one win of becoming bowl eligible following a 35-23 victory over Tulane, Saturday night in a non-conference game at Aloha Stadium.

The Warriors (6-6) need to win their regular season finale against Brigham Young next week to earn an invitation to the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.

Freshman David Graves making his first career start, finished 21-of-38 for 260 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 57 yards and another score. He gave way to Shane Austin at the end of the third quarter and the senior completed 9-of-10 passes for 98 yards and led the Warriors to the game-sealing touchdown drive.

Freshman wide receiver Trevor Davis was the recipient of both of Graves' touchdown passes while running back Joey Iosefa rushed for 59 yards and two scores.

Graves marched the Warriors downfield on the opening possession and found Davis for an 18-yard score. Graves completed all four passes during the drive and directed UH to an opening drive touchdown for just the second time all season.

Midway through the first quarter, the Green Wave (2-11) tied the score at 7 with an 11-yard touchdown run by Albert Williams. But the Warriors wasted no time with the help of a 43-yard circus catch by Billy Ray Stutzmann. One play later, on a quarterback draw play, Graves scrambled 15 yards to put UH ahead 14-7.

The Green Wave answered right back driving 68 yards on 13 plays, capped by a one-yard run by Orleans Darkwa, to tie the score. But Graves and the Warriors responded with a 12-play drive of their own, covering 74 yards and culminating with Iosefa's first of two TDs.

Graves was intercepted on UH's next two possessions the latter set up a 40-yard field goal attempt to close the half. But as he's done three previous times this season, John Hardy-Tulia blocked the Calro Santos' attempt. The four blocks by Hardy-Tuliau is the most since Sean Butts blocked four kicks in 2001.

UH opened the second half with another touchdown drive. Graves accounted for all 66 yards, including a 29-yard scamper during the drive, which ended on Graves' 12-yard pass to Davis.

The UH defense came up big in the third quarter with interceptions by linebacker Aaron Brown and cornerback Tank Hopkins. The latter was Hopkins' first career pick and on the very next play, with the ball at the UH 2-yard line, Iosefa fumbled in the end zone and recovered by lineman Brett Leonard for a safety.

After UH's free kick went out of bounds, the Green Wave took over at midfield and drove the field capped by Darkwa's second rushing touchdown of the game, pulling Tulane to within 28-23.

With Graves on the sideline, Austin took over the controls and marched the Warriors on a 10 play, 71–yard drive. Iosefa took a pitch by Austin at the 1-yard line on fourth down for the score.

The game was a rematch of the 2002 Hawai'i Bowl won by the Green Wave.

The Warriors close out the regular season by hosting Brigham Young, Saturday, Dec. 3. Kickoff for the nationally televised contest is 2:30 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
