The UH Lettewinners Club hosted two events over the last two weeks – a tour of the athletics complex and facilities and a golf tournament in Las Vegas.
The “Behind the Scenes” event held on Saturday, Sept. 12 included a tour of many of the athletic facilites in addition to a viewing of the UH-Washington State football game and tickets to that night's women's volleyball match against Stanford.
The sold-out event drew more than 500 participants and the participation of 100 volunteers. Approximately $28,000 was raised and will benefit the UH athletic programs and student-athletes.
Attendees were welcomed by the UH pep band and were guided on the tour by the UH Rainbow Dancers. Coaches and student-athletes for many of UH's sports greeted participants at each venue and spoke briefly about their team and facility.
Participants received a goodie bag, food and drinks, and had their picture taken on the 50-yard line at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field. Lucky drawing winners received a laptop and lunch cruise for two.
The UHLWC also held a fundraiser golf tournament last week at Nellis Air Force Base in conjunction with the Warrior football team's game against UNLV. This was the first tournament hosted by the club.
Approximately 60 letterwinners and friends participated in the tournament, which also included UH-Manoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw, Athletics Director
Jim Donovan, Representative
K. Mark Takai, and former men's basketball coach Riley Wallace.
The tournament was held at Sunrise Vista Golf Course on Nellis Air Force Base on Friday, Sept. 18. The format was a three-person scramble and prizes included football season tickets, courtside seat tickets for women's volleyball, and autographed helmets and footballs.
