Eggens Wins Silver Medal With Canadian National Team

ROME – University of Hawai'i junior Carmen Eggens, recently returned to Honolulu and the fall semester as a silver medalist. Eggens won a silver medal playing with the Canadian National Water Polo Team this summer at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy.
 
The Canadian team made a strong run over the 13-day event and eventually lost a tough 7-6 match against the United States in the final.
 
The Canadian team pulled off huge upsets over Hungary in the quarterfinals and then Russia, the 2008 European champs, in the semifinals before facing the defending champion Americans in the final.
 
Eggens, who is entering her junior season at UH, is one of the youngest players on the Canadian team. Eggens appeared in six international matches and scored two goals in 34 minutes of total action.
 
Eggens scored two goals in 23 minutes of action against South Africa, during pool play at the World Championships.
 
Last season at UH, Eggens helped lead the Rainbow Wahine to the semifinals of the NCAA Championships and a fourth place finish. UH finished the season ranked No. 4 in the country.
