Pair of Rainbow Warriors Earn ITA Academic Honors

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its list of academic honorees for 2008-09 with two University of Hawai'i men's tennis players gaining recognition. Sascha Heinemann and Andreas Weber were both named ITA Scholar Athletes for their performances on the court and in the classroom.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Heinemann maintained a 3.6 GPA, while Weber accumulated a 3.85 GPA during the past academic year, both as business majors. On the court, the pair were key cogs in a squad that repeated as Western Athletic Conference champions and made its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Earlier this year, both players were named to the all-WAC academic team. Heinemann, who exhausted his eligibility this past spring, was UH's first four-time all-WAC selection and earned all-academic honors all four years also. Weber, meanwhile, gained all-WAC and all-WAC academic mention for the third straight season.
