BELGRADE, Serbia – University of Hawai'i diver
Emma Friesen finished at the FISU World University Games with a fifth place, sixth place and a 13
th place finish on the 1-meter and 3-meter events, taking place over the past week in Belgrade, Serbia. Friesen was representing her home country of Canada.
Friesen opened the World University Games with a sixth place finish on the 1-meter. Friesen had a score of 251.10 overall and was the highest scoring member of the Canadian Team.
In her second event, the 3-meter, Friesen finished in 13th place, narrowly missing the finals. Friesen was once again the top Canadian diver. China's Jun Dong won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Friesen's final event was the 3-meter synchronized diving final, where her and teammate Lacey Truelove, finished in fifth place with a score of 240.30. Truelove attends the University of Houston.
Friesen, is also a member of the Canada senior national team. Friesen was named the NCAA co-diver of the year in 2008 after she captured the gold on the 1-meter springboard at the NCAA Championships.
The Summer Universiade is an international multi-sport event that takes place every two years, and is second only to the Olympic Games in the number of participating athletes and countries. The Universiade is open to competitors between the ages of 17 and 28 in the year of the Games who are full-time students at a post-secondary institution (university, college, CEGEP) or have graduated from a post-secondary institution in the year preceding the event.
