Men’s Basketball Announces Schedule For Upcoming 2009-10 Season

Full Schedule

HONOLULU – The 2009-10 University of Hawai'i men's basketball schedule includes 20 home games at the Stan Sheriff Center and 11 teams which participated in postseason play a year ago. In addition, the Rainbow Warriors will host the inaugural Diamond Head Classic during the Christmas holiday.

UH opens the season by hosting the revamped Rainbow Classic, now a four-team round-robin tournament held during the season's opening weekend. The 'Bows will host Southern Utah, McNeese State, and Northern Colorado during a four-day stretch.

Two former Western Athletic Conference foes, Brigham Young and New Mexico, return to the islands for games on Nov. 20 and Nov. 27, respectively. Both BYU and New Mexico shared the Mountain West Conference regular season title while the Cougars advanced to the NCAA Tournament by capturing an at-large berth. New Mexico earned a spot in the NIT last season for the second straight year.

UH's lone non-conference road game pits the 'Bows against UC Irvine in a return game of the BracketBusters event from last season.

Following home games against Lamar (Dec. 6) and Chicago State (Dec. 12), the 'Bows will host the Diamond Head Classic (Dec. 22-23, 25).

Five of the eight teams in the Diamond Head Classic appeared in postseason play last season including NCAA Tournament participant USC, NIT participants St. Mary's and UNLV and College Basketball Invitational participants College of Charleston and Northeastern. SMU and Western Michigan round out the field.

UH opens the first half of WAC play with five home games out of its first seven. The Rainbow Warriors head on the road for their first WAC road game against defending champion Utah State on Jan. 9.

UH will again host a BrackeBusters game this season, which is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 20 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The second half of WAC play, UH will host three games, and be on the road for five, including the final two regular season games of the year at Boise State and Idaho.

For the second straight year, the WAC Tournament will be held in Reno, Nev., which begins Mar. 9. This season, the top-eight teams will be seeded in the tournament.
