SKILLMAN, N.J. - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team is headed for uncharted waters again. By finishing 41st in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll the Rainbow Warriors gained an invitation to the qualifying rounds of the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, a first for the program.
The ITA held its second annual Men's Kick-Off Weekend Draft earlier this week as teams bid for which route they will take to the 2010 Indoor Championships. Teams that finished the season ranked in the top 60 qualify for the Kick-Off Weekend, which will be held January 30-31, 2010 at 15 host sites.
UH gained a bid to the UCLA regional, where they will join the host Bruins, Pepperdine and South Florida. The No. 4 seed Rainbow Warriors will face top-seeded UCLA in a rematch of the 2009 NCAA second round tilt won by the Bruins.
The 15 schools that win both of their matches at the event will advance to the main draw of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Virginia at the Boar's Head Sports Club, Feb. 12-15, 2010.
During the 2009 season the Rainbow Warriors participated in the prestigious Blue Gray Classic, won their first-ever NCAA Tournament match and finished with the highest ranking in program history.
