Friesen To Represent Canada At FISU World University Games

OTTAWA – University of Hawai'i diver Emma Friesen will represent Canada at the FISU World University Games set to take place July 1-12 in Belgrade, Serbia. Friesen will be a senior next season at UH and is one of three divers representing Canada.
 
The World University Games, also known as the 25th Summer Universiade, begins July 1, with the first diving competition set for July 4 and running through July 10.
 
Friesen, is also a member of the Canada senior national team. Friesen was named the NCAA co-diver of the year in 2008 after she captured the gold on the 1-meter springboard at the NCAA Championships.
 
This past season Friesen finished third at the NCAA Championships on the 1-meter. She also set a new Western Athletic Conference record on the 1-meter and won the 3-meter on her way to being named the WAC Diver of the Year.
 
The International University Sports Federation, FISU, states its purpose, according to its website, arose within university institutions to propagate sport values and promote sports practice in perfect synergy and complementarity's with the university spirit.

Canada has enjoyed great success in diving over the years at the Summer Universiade, racking up 13 medals, but has failed to reach the podium since tallying three medals in 1999.
