DENVER – University of
Hawai'i pitcher, Stephanie Ricketts, was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for April 27-May 2. It is the second time this season Ricketts earned the award.
Ricketts, a freshman from San Jose, Calif., tossed her second no-hitter of the season and posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 earned run average last week. In the series opener, she had a five-inning no hitter, facing just one batter over the minimum and striking out four. It was her ninth shutout of the season. She then threw a two-hitter in the following game, fanning two. Ricketts did not give up an earned run in the series, holding the Broncos to a .061 batting average. She also earned her 20th and 21st wins of the season, becoming just the fifth pitcher in Hawai'i history to pass the 20-win mark.
Earlier this season, Ricketts earned her first WAC Pitcher of the Week award for the week of March 16-23 after going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the conference opening series at Louisiana Tech. She fired a pair of shut-outs—a no-hitter and a one-hitter that weekend.
Overall, Ricketts is now 21-9 and 13-4 in conference action with a 1.90 ERA in 220.2 innings pitched. She's walked just 43 batters while striking out 173--which is fifth all-time in UH history for a single-season.
Earlier this season rightfielder,
Tanisha Milca, was named the Western Athletic Conference's Hitter of the Week for Feb. 23-March 1 and designated-player
Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu earned the award for March 30-April 5.
