SKILLMAN, N.J. – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team concluded the season ranked 41st in the final ITA Men's Division I rankings. It is the highest ranking ever for the Rainbow Warrior program.
It was another banner year for the Rainbow Warriors who made it to their second straight NCAA Tournament. UH took down a pair of Top 20 teams, defeating Boise State in the WAC Tournament finals, then picking up the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win with a 4-3 first-round decision over Oklahoma State. UH finished with an 11-10 overall record.
Two other Western Athletic Conference teams finished in the rankings. Boise State, the WAC runner-up, advanced the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament and finished 20th. Fresno State, meanwhile, finished three spots behind UH at No. 44.
USC topped the rankings after upsetting Ohio State to win the national championship. UH lost at USC 4-3 earlier in the season, with
Dennis Lajola defeating top-seeded Robert Farah, then the fourth-ranked player in the country. UCLA, the team that ended UH's season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, was ranked fifth, after advancing all the way to the national semifinals.
