HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team will conduct a practice and scrimmage at the War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui, Saturday, April 11. The Warriors will also hold an autograph session following the intrasquad scrimmage. Admission for the event is free.
The team will fly to the Valley Island Saturday morning in time for the 11:00 a.m. start of practice. Following a one-hour practice, the team will then hold a one-hour intrasquad scrimmage. From 1:00-3:00 p.m., the team will be available for autographs and photos on the field. Fans are encouraged to bring items to sign.
Parking and admission into War Memorial Stadium is free. UH merchandise will be available for sale by Rainbowtique and concession stands will be run by the Maui Interscholastic League.
The event was made possible by donations from McDonald's and Oceanic Time Warner Cable, as well as support from Hawaiian Airlines and Panda Travel, and in-kind support from the County of Maui.
The practice will be a homecoming for Warrior running back
Jayson Rego and offensive lineman
Andrew Faaumu. Rego, a Wailuku native, attended Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama and last year played mostly on special teams. Faaumu, of Kihei, is a graduate of Lahainaluna High School.
The trip won't be the first to the Valley Isle for the Warriors. In 2001, UH opened the season against Montana at War Memorial Stadium and defeated the Grizzlies, 30-12, in front of a sold-out crowd of 12,863.
The Warriors are in the midst of their 15-practice spring camp, which started March 30. Camp concludes Saturday, April 25 with the annual “Warrior Bowl,” at Aloha Stadium.
