DENVER – University of Hawai'i sophomore reliever
Sam Spangler earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors after making two great relief appearances this past week in Minneapolis, Minn.
Spangler made two relief appearances last week, allowing only three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. Spangler went 3.1 innings with five strikeouts to earn a save against Minnesota on Thursday in Minneapolis. He then pitched 4.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one walk against Minnesota on Sunday.
The Albuquerque, N.M., native has logged 10.1 innings in three appearances thus far this season, striking out 12 while allowing just one unearned run, three hits and two walks.
New Mexico State catcher Jeff Farnham was named the WAC Hitter of the Week.
Hawai'i hosts No. 26 Mississippi State for a four-game series, March 5-8, at Les Murakami Stadium.
