AUSTIN, Texas – University of Hawai`i women's diver
Emma Friesen won the 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone E Diving Qualifying meet in Austin, Texas on Thursday, advancing the junior to the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row.
With the first place finish on the first day in the 3-meter, Friesen will now be able to compete in both the 1-meter and 3-meter at the NCAA Championships next week in College Station, Texas. Friesen is the reigning champion on the 1-meter.
Friesen will dive in the 1-meter on Friday at the Zone E Qualifying, but has already advanced to next week. Friesen finished with a final score of 594.20.
Freshman
Daniella Nero will also compete in the 1-meter event on Friday and will need to finish in the top-3 to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Freshman
Douglas Cohen will compete on the 3-meter on Friday and will also need a top-3 finish in order to advance to the men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship which will also be held in College Station, Texas in two weeks. Cohen finished 11
th on Thursday in the 1-meter final.
Both Cohen and Nero will compete in the Platform event on Saturday at the Zone E Qualifying Meet held at the University of Texas.
