Women’s Swimming And Diving Win Relay Event On First Day

Day 1 Results

SAN ANTONIO – The University of Hawai`i women's swimming and diving team opened the Western Athletic Conference Championships with a first place finish Wednesday afternoon at the Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas.
 
In the 800-yard freestyle relay final, the team of Elliko Heimbach, Ricarda Schellenberg, Maura Barrett and Emma Berry, won the event with a time of 7:18.76. UH beat second place Northern Arizona by just over five seconds.
 
The only other final of the day was the 200-yard medley relay, where UH finished in fourth place. The team of Victoria Tan, Brianna De Palezieux, Hanna Yttring and Maura Barrett finished in a time of 1:43.90, three seconds behind first place Nevada in a close race.

Action continues tomorrow at Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas with the 500-yard freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 1-meter diving and the 200 freestyle relay. Prelims begin at 11:00 a.m. and the finals start at 6:30 p.m.
