Wright-Jackson Honored By WAC With Weekly Award

DENVER – University of Hawai'i running back Leon Wright-Jackson was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week, after his breakout performance in last week's win over Utah State.

Wright-Jackson, a senior from Pasco, Wash. (Columbia Basin JC), ran for a career-high 167 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries in Hawai'i's 49-36 win over the Aggies. Wright-Jackson scored a touchdown in each of the first three quarters and became the first Hawai'i back to rush for more than 100 yards in nearly three years. The 167 yards were the most by a Warrior since 1993 and helped Hawai'i, as a team, rush for 360 yards, the most in a game since 1995.

Along with fellow running back Alex Green (110 yards), the pair became the first UH tandem to rush for over 100 yards since 1995 when Johnny Macon (141) and Brett Washington (106) accomplished the feat. It was also the first time two running backs accomplished the feat since Calvin Melvin (172) and Brian Gordon (166) did it versus BYU on Sept. 11, 1993.

Fresno State safety Lorne Bell and placekicker Kevin Goessling received the defensive and special teams awards, respectively.

The Warriors host New Mexico State this Saturday. Kickoff is 5:05 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
