Swimming Continues Strong Showing At Toshiba Classic On Friday

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i swimming teams finished the second day of the Toshiba Classic, hosted by UC San Diego in Long Beach, Calif. strong Friday night.
 
The Rainbow Warriors finished in second behind Stanford on the men's side of the classic, with 719 points. The men's side of the classic features swimmers from 13 teams.
 
The Rainbow Wahine finished Friday in eighth place with 217 points. The women's side of the classic has swimmers from 24 teams.
 
On the men's side, UH finished second in both relay finals. The team of Lazar Bogdanovski, Perry Sharify, Sean Reilly and Mark Higley took second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.37.
 
The team of James Clarke, Bogdanovski, Vlad Anastasescu and Higley finished second in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:37.31.
 
Individually, Luca Mazzurana finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.19 and Clarke finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.89. Sharify placed third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.73 and Bogdanovski finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.06.
 
The Rainbow Wahine relay team of Victoria Tan, Katherine Edwards, Jenna Seitz and Maura Barrett finished ninth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.24. Edwards had a ninth place finish in the 100 breaststroke final with a time of 1:04.10.
 
The third and final day of the Toshiba Classic begins Saturday morning in Long Beach, Calif.
