WAC Preseason Media Poll
DENVER – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team was picked to finish eighth in the Western Athletic Conference in both the coaches and media preseason poll announced by the conference office today.
In the coaches poll, Fresno State was picked first, followed by Louisiana Tech and Boise State. Idaho was picked fourth, New Mexico State fifth, Nevada sixth, Utah State seventh and San Jose State tied with UH in eighth.
The media poll had the top teams slightly different, with Louisiana Tech picked to win the league. Fresno State was picked second, followed Boise State third, Idaho fourth, Nevada fifth, New Mexico State sixth, Utah State seventh and San Jose State in ninth.
Along with the WAC finishes, the preseason All-WAC teams were announced, with Louisiana Tech's Shanavia Dowdell as the unanimous preseason Player of the Year in both the coaches and media poll.
The Rainbow Wahine did not have a player selected to either first or second team in the coaches or media poll. UH finished the WAC season 4-12 last season and in eighth place.
UH opens the season with an exhibition game on Nov. 4 against Hawai'i Pacific at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. The regular season kicks off Nov. 17 against UC Riverside in Riverside, Calif.
