Swimming and Diving Faced Tough Competition Over Weekend

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i men's and women's swimming and diving teams faced some tough competition over the weekend in two dual meets. UH hosted its first and only two swimming dual meets of the season at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
 
The women's team beat Boise State 162-138 and lost to Wisconsin 205-70. The men's team lost to Minnesota 150-87 and lost to Wisconsin 168-132.
 
In the women's win over Boise State, Victoria Tan won the 100 and 200 backstroke, Elliko Heimbach won the 100 and 200 butterfly, Brianna De Palezieux won the 200 breaststroke and Emma Berry won the 500 freestyle.
 
In the loss against Wisconsin, Heimbach won the 100 butterfly and finished second in the 200 butterfly.
 
The men's team had a close meet against Wisconsin and had wins by Nicola Xella in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, Davis Kane won the 100 freestyle and Greg Wilson finished second in the 100 butterfly.
 
Against Minnesota, UH had a first place finish by Kane in the 100 freestyle, John Ariens had a second place finish in the 100 backstroke and Xella finished second in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Lazar Bogdanovski finished second in the 200 backstroke and Andrew Muller finished second in the 500 freestyle.
 
The women's team will prepare for the WAC Championships which begin Feb. 25, while the men's team prepares for the Conference USA Championships which also begins Feb. 25.
