Pair Of UH Sailors Start Season At Singlehanded Event

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine sailors Shandy Buckley and Hannah Tuson-Turner officially kicked of the sailing season at the PCCSC Women's Singlehanded Championships. The pair finished in third and fourth place, respectively, just falling short of qualifying for the nationals.

A total of 12 sailors from seven schools participated in the regatta hosted by UC San Diego and UC Irvine at the Mission Bay Yacht Club. Twelve races were completed in moderate conditions with Stanford sailors Taylor Grimes (35 point) and Carolyn Prioleau (46 point) taking the top two spots. The pair automatically qualified for the Women's Singlehanded Nationals in Ithaca, New York in November. Buckley (52 points) finished 17 points off the pace, while Tuson-Turner (56) finished just four points behind Buckley.

The Rainbow Wahine next participate in the Bryson Women's Intersectional, hosted by Stanford, Oct. 4-5.
