LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team opened the 2008 season ranked No. 12 in the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll.
Hawai`i finished the 2007 with a record of 27-6, advancing to the NCAA second round. UH ended the 2007 ranked No. 18 in the poll. The Rainbow Wahine also won their 12th straight Western Athletic Conference title and 13th consecutive conference championship overall.
Along with the Rainbow Wahine, six teams that are on UH's schedule appear in the top 25. Heading that list is No. 1 Penn State, who Hawai`i will face in the season-opener on Friday, Aug. 29, in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic. UCLA, also in the classic, is ranked No. 6. Others on UH's schedule that are ranked include No. 9 Washington, No. 10 Cal Poly, No. 16 Minnesota and No. 23 New Mexico State.
