NEWPORT, R.I. - The third and final day of racing came to a close at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's National Championship Wednesday afternoon with the University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine sailing team finishing in 15th place.
The Rainbow Wahine were making their ninth appearance in the last 11 years at the nationals. UH was in 15th after the first eight races which started on Memorial Day and remained in that spot for the next two days.
The Rainbow Wahine totaled 460 points over the course of three days. Becky Mabardy, Darla Baldwin and Erin Magee tallied 268 points to finish 16th in the A division. Hannah Tuson-Turner, Jackie McLoughin, Pamela Magasinn and Danielle Hull totaled 192 points for a 12th-place finish in the B division.
The final four races of the three-day, 18-race regatta were completed Wednesday at Narragansett Bay with a dramatic finish. Trailing by just two points going into the final race, Boston College snatched the championship from Brown University and won by a mere two points with a total of 186. Yale (202), the leader after the first two days, finished in third, while Stanford (206) placed fourth and the College of Charleston (224) came in fifth.
