NEWPORT, R.I. - The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine stand in 15th place after the first day of competition at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's National Championship Monday at Narragansett Bay.
A total of six races in both the A and B divisions were completed during the first day. Blustery conditions greeted the sailors on Memorial Day with water temperatures in the upper 50s and a southerly breeze around 10 knots the climbed to a gusty 25-knots later in the afternoon.
UH finished with 171 points after day one. Becky Mabardy and Darla Baldwin tallied 99 points in A division, while Hannah Tuson-Turner and Jackie McLoughin totaled 72 points in the B division. Yale leads the 18-schoool competition with 42 points, 14 points ahead of second place Brown.
The regatta continues tomorrow with six more races and concludes Wednesday after a full 18-race rotation is completed in both the A and B divisions.
