Rainbow Wahine Place Fourth At PCCSC Championship

SAN FRANCISCO - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine sailing team concluded its 2006-07 campaign with a fourth-place finish at the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Championship, April 21-22, at the Treasure Island Center.

UH totaled 102 points to finish behind Stanford (48), UC Irvine (75) and USC (90). As the top two finishers, Stanford and UC Irvine earned automatic bids to the ICSA Women's National Championship to be held May 23-25 in Norfolk, Va. The Rainbow Wahine, meanwhile, failed to qualify for the nationals for just the second time in the last 10 years.

A total of 28 races, 14 in both the A and B divisions, were completed over the weekend. Becky Mabardy skippered UH to fifth in the A division and Crystal Bronte guided UH to third in the B division. Pamela Magasinn, Elise St. Claire and Leanne Horvitz served as crew members as UH finished in first in three separate races during the competition.

The coed sailing team still has a chance to represent UH at nationals when it hosts the PCCSC Team Racing and Coed Championships, April 27-29 at Keehi Lagoon. Two berths will be up for grabs for next month's ICSA Championships in Annapolis, Md.
