HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine senior Tanya Smith has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 17-23. This is Smith's second honor this season.

Smith, from Sydney, Australia (Jannali HS), recorded back-to-back double-doubles for the Rainbow Wahine, as they went 1-1 at the Women of Troy Classic in Los Angeles.

Smith started off the tournament with a season-high 21 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and added six assists and two steals. In the second game, Smith had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and added three steals.

On the week, the senior center averaged 17.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and three assists in 35.5 minutes per game, over the two days. Smith's two double-doubles gives her seven on the season. She was named to the Women of Troy Basketball Classic All-Tournament team for her efforts, marking the third All-Tournament team that she has been named to this season.

The Rainbow Wahine return to action December 28 when they host the Bank of Hawai`i Invitational, beginning with William and Mary and Iona facing each other at 5 p.m. Hawai`i will face UC Irvine on Friday night at 7 p.m.
