LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Team Academic Awards for the 2020-21 academic year with both the Rainbow Wahine indoor and beach teams earning recognition for their performance in the classroom.

UH is one of 1,275 teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award. The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams (men/women, boys/girls, indoor/beach) that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.
 
The BeachBows had a stellar 3.51 average during the school year, while the indoor squad was almost equally outstanding with a 3.48 team GPA. Four Big West teams  − including Hawai'i – were recognized by the AVCA on each the indoor and beach sides. Just last week seven BeachBows were placed on the all-Big West academic team.
 
The Rainbow Wahine indoor team is scheduled to make its highly-anticipated return to the court on  Friday, August 27, opening its 2021 season versus Fairfield at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
