Stan Sheriff was a local boy who returned to Hawai‘i to serve as athletics director from 1983-93. He was chiefly responsible for the construction of the 10,300-seat on-campus arena, which was renamed in his honor shortly after his death. Sheriff was instrumental in starting the Rainbow Fever fund-raising program, the department’s tutorial program and one of the nation’s best radio-television packages.
