One of the most dominant linemen in UH football history was offensive guard James “Jim” Kalili. A four-year letterman from 1967-70, he was named a second-team Little All-American by the Associated Press, honorable mention Little All-American by Kodak, and first-team Little All-Coast by United Press International. He received the team’s Most Inspirational Player, Best Offensive Lineman, and Mr. Hustle awards during his career and helped the Rainbows to a 9-2 record in 1970. He was selected to the 1971 Hula Bowl and was one of 11 players chosen to the all-time UH team in 1973. Following his UH career, he had stints with the NFL’s Washington Redskins and WFL’s Honolulu Hawaiians. He also lettered on the UH volleyball team for three seasons and was its coach in 1972.
