George Uyeda dominated the long- jump track scene in Hawai‘i for more than a decade. His 1947 long jump record of 25 feet, 3/8 inches, made national headlines and still holds as the top record made for long jump by a local athlete. A celebrity of his time, Uyeda’s record-breaking long jumps place him in an elite class of athletes alongside Jesse Owens and Eulace Peacocks.
