KANE'OHE, O'ahu –
Kevyn Murphy placed third overall to lead the University of Hawai'i women's cross country team at the Big Wave Invitational, Saturday at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course on Marines Corps Base Hawai'i.
Murphy, a senior from Manhattan Beach, Calif., completed the 5K course in 19:48.12 for her third Top 10 finish in four Big Wave meets. She also finished third as a freshman in 2010 when the course was a 4K race. In 2011, she took eighth at 19:31.38 while last year she ran unattached and placed 11
th.
UH and UNLV were the only Division I teams to compete in the eight-team field. The Lady Rebels (26) edged the Rainbow Wahine (29) in the dual-match format by three points. In the Division II/III race, Hawai'i Pacific scored 27 points followed by BYU-Hawai'i (49), Alaska-Fairbanks (56), George Fox (100), Hawai'i-Hilo (136), and Chaminade (185).
HPU's Fiona McKenna captured the individual title, crossing the finish line in 18:48.52. Nohemi Martinez, who ran unattached, was runner-up in 19:18.60.

BYU-Hawai'i captured the men's 5K race with 42 points followed by HPU (60), Alaska-Fairbanks (63), George Fox (73), and Chaminade (130). HPU's Fermi Murillo-Villagran won the individual title in 16:05.76 ahead of BYUH's Kevin Miller (16:14.79).
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Stanford Invitational, Sept. 28 in Stanford, Calif.
