Women's Tournament Notes

The University of Hawai'i men's and women's golf teams close their 2009 fall seasons by hosting the ninth annual Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, Nov. 2 through 4, at the Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, O'ahu.

After eight years as a men's event, this year's tournament will include both men's and women's teams from around the nation. The participants include: host Hawai'i, Brigham Young, California, Gonzaga, Long Beach State, New Mexico State, Oregon, Oregon State, Oral Roberts, San Diego State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Toledo, Tulsa, UC Davis, UCLA, USC, and Washington.

The men's field includes 10 teams, two of which are international: host Hawai'i, Air Force, British Columbia (Canada), BYU-Hawai'i, Georgia State, Illinois, Long Beach State, New Mexico State, Osaka Gakuin (Japan), and San Diego State.

The three-day tournament will consist of 54 holes, one round of 18 holes played each day. Men and women will play each round on two different courses. Men's teams will play Rounds 1 and 2 on the Arnold Palmer Course and Round 3 on the George Fazio Course. Women's teams will play Rounds 1 and 2 on the Fazio Course and Round 3 on the Palmer Course. For the men, the Palmer course checks in at 7,218 yards and the Fazio at 6,535 yards. For the women, the Palmer course checks in at 6,361 yards and the Fazio at 6,261 yards. Both courses are par-72.

In last year's Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, the Warriors finished in a three-way tie for eighth place, along with Oregon and Pepperdine, with a two-over par (285-296-285=866). Sophomore #T.J. Kua#, who led the tournament individually after the second round, finished tied for 14th at four-under par (70-67-75=212). Sophomore Jared Sawada (71-81-69=221) tied for 56th and junior Kamden Brakel (75-79-74=228) tied for 89th. Participating as an individual for UH was sophomore Pono Calip (79-80-76=235/98th).

Hawai'i is the only team to have won the tournament's title more than once, in 2003 and 2004. Two Warriors have won individual titles, Matt Kodama in the inaugural event in 2001 and Cody Wolfenbarger in 2004.
